LHC seeks reply from respondents on petition against hike in driving license fee

LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) has sought reply from the respondents on the petition against the hike in driving licenses fee. Judge Sajid Mehmood Sethi took up for hearing the petition filed by senior lawyer Ghulam Abbas Haral against increase in driving license fee Wednesday. The petitioner has made care taker government Punjab, IG Punjab and others respondents. The petitioner took the plea that care taker government is not authorized to increase fees by imposing additional tax. Caretaker government is meant for running daily routine matters and enhancing fee does not fall in its jurisdiction. The petitioner requested the court to set aside notification regarding hike in driving license fee besides issuing order for preparing driving licenses on old rate. The court while issuing notices to chief secretary, IG Punjab and others has sought written reply from them. The court also ordered state counsel to file detailed reply till next hearing. Online
