Commissioner Mardan Division Shaukat Ali Yousafzai has directed the relevant departments including the administration of Tehsil Municipal Administration Mardan to take immediate and effective steps to eliminate illegal encroachments in Mardan city.
He ordered to clear the main market Bank Road of the city from Kachhari Chowk to Pakistan Chowk of all kinds of temporary and permanent encroachments and a committee headed by Additional Deputy Commissioner was entrusted with the task. In this regard, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of Commissioner Mardan Division in the Commissioner’s Office the other day.
Additional Commissioner Naeem Akhtar, Regional Police Officer Najeebur Rehman Bagwi, City Mayor Mardan Himayatullah Mayar, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Saeedullah Jan, Assistant Commissioner Ayesha Tahir, CEO of Cantonment Board, officers of NHA, PKHA, C&W and other concerned officials attended the meeting.
City Mayor Himayatullah Mayar drew the attention of the meeting to the illegal encroachments on the main highways including markets and intersections in Mardan, the second largest city of the province, saying that due to these encroachments, the lives of the citizens have become miserable, while it also affect the beauty of the city.
He said that due to lack of parking in the markets and shopping plazas established in the city, traffic problems are also increasing.
Commissioner Mardan Division Shaukat Ali Yousafzai directed the officers present in the meeting to regularize the traffic system in the city to make Mardan city clean from encroachments, reconstruct the U-turns in the light of traffic engineering and take steps for construction of slip road where necessary.
It was decided in the meeting that in the first phase, Bank Road will be cleared of all types of temporary and permanent encroachments. A committee headed by ADC (G) consisting of officers from administration, police, TMA and Cantonment Board was formed to eliminate encroachments from Bank Road. After completion of this task other markets and intersections will also be cleared of encroachments. Commissioner Mardan Division directed the committee to ensure the achievement of the set goals in every way to make Mardan, the second largest city of the province, an ideal city.
