Reserved seats cannot be allotted to SIC: EC replies to SC

ISLAMABAD: Election Commission (EC) has filed reply in Supreme Court (SC) in reserved seats case stating that the reserved seats cannot be allotted to Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC). Full bench of SC presided over by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa will hear the reserved seats case on June 24. EC has said in its reply filed in SC that the last date for filing list of reserved seats was January 24. SIC filed no list for reserved seats. The candidates sought certificate for providing election symbol of Tehreek-e-Insaf Nazriati. Later the candidates withdrew from election symbol of Tehreek-e-Insaf Nazriati (TIN). The candidates were declared independent after they withdraw from election symbol of TIN. The independent candidates joined SIC after election. EC gave decision with 4-1 for not providing reserved seats to SIC. Peshawar High Court (PHC) withheld EC decision on SIC appeal. SIC is not eligible for reserved seats. EC further said there is no fault in decisions of EC and PHC. EC decision for allotment of reserved seats is as per law and constitution. According to constitution of SIC . A non muslim cannot become its member. The condition of SIC against inclusion of non Muslim is unconstitutional. SIC is not entitled to reserved seats of women and minorities. Online
