Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) Chairman, Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao, has called for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja and lauded the Supreme Court ruling on reserved seats.
In a statement issued here on Saturday, the chief of the QWP Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao said that the Chief Election Commissioner and other members’ resignations will pave the way for transparent and impartial elections in the country, adding that the Supreme Court ruling on reserved seats was a sign of no confidence in the performance of the Election Commission and its members.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has failed to conduct clean and transparent polls and has clearly violated the relevant laws and the constitution.
Reiterating the demand for electoral reforms in the country, he said that the process of electoral reforms in consultation with all political parties was the only way for the country. It is the only way to promote democracy through which the current crises can be resolved.
Sherpao furthered that all political parties are dissatisfied with the performance of the Election Commission, so the Chief Election Commissioner should resign.
QWP chairman termed the Supreme court’s decision enough to open the eyes of all political parties to realize that public service is the only way to make a place in the country’s politics and gain public support.
