Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) and Awami National Party (ANP) have criticized the government plan to impose restrictions on political parties and ban Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
The Chairman of QWP Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao has strongly criticized the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) led federal government’s recent announcement seeking ban on PTI, calling it an “un-political and undemocratic attitude” that will spread political chaos in the country.
Aftab Sherpao expressed his concern that the decision will have negative consequences and worsen the already volatile political and economic environment in the country.
He advised against spending energy on such measures and instead focused on addressing the country’s economic crisis, law and order situation, and public problems.
“Political opposition should be limited to the political field, and putting any political party against the wall will have negative consequences,” Sherpao said.
“The country will not only become a victim of political instability, but its economic situation is also feared to worsen,” he added.
The central spokesperson of ANP Engineer Ihsan Ullah Khan in a statement issued also criticized the federal government move against the PTI and has demanded the establishment of a Truth and Reconciliation Commission to investigate all cases of political manipulation and constitutional violations.
The party leader stated that the ruling party at the center is repeating the same mistakes made by PTI between 2018 and 2022, and that this “musical chair show” must be stopped to restore people’s faith in politics.
The ANP called for a full investigation into all cases, exposing those who have violated the constitution, including facilitators within the judiciary and other institutions.
Engineer Ihsan emphasized that the country cannot move forward without holding the involved parties accountable.
The ANP warned that restrictions on political parties and the political process are unacceptable and that they will not support fascism and authoritarian attitudes under any circumstances.
