PESHAWAR: Advisor to the chief minister on finance Muzamil Aslam has criticized the surge in electricity and petrol prices, alleging that the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) led federal government was looting peoples by installing expensive power plants. He pointed out that hydropower costs less than Rs10 per unit, fuel costs for other power generation methods are also below Rs10 ,capacity charges for actual power plants average Rs25 per unit, equivalent to building a new dam,adding that federal government taxes accounted for the third-largest portion of electricity costs. In a statement issued here CM-KP aide on finance Aslam accused former leaders, including PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif and the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), of installing expensive power plants and dumping the costs on the poor masses of the country. The unstable petroleum prices in Pakistan, despite stable international market prices,between $75-85 for the past year, are attributed to taxes, calculation adjustments, and the incompetence of DISCOs, which enable power theft at the public’s expense.
