Adviser to the Chief Minister on Finance, Muzzammil Aslam, has stated that the government’s primary objective through the Disaster Risk Financing Strategy is to safeguard vulnerable populations from the adverse effects of disasters.
Additionally, the strategy aims to protect public assets, the agricultural sector, and government finances from the impact of disasters, he said. This was disclosed by Advisor to CM on Finance Muzammil Aslam while presiding over the high-level meeting with British High Commission delegation under the leadership of Development Director Jo Moir in KP house Islamabad here on Thursday, said an official handout.
The meeting was also attended by KP Minister Excise Mian Khaleeq Ur Rehman, Secretary Finance Amir Sultan Tareen, Secretary P&D Shahid Ullah Khan, DG KPRA Fozia Iqbal, Special Secretary Local Govt and Chief Economist Arif Ulah Khan while from the other side British High Commission Director Ms. Jo Moir, Team leader SNG Mr. Matt Clancy and other relevant authorities.
Exploring the purpose and scope of KP’s Disaster Risk Financing Strategy, Muzzammil Aslam said that it is the effort to improve public financial management practices to ensure that sufficient funds are available in a cost-effective and timely manner for addressing natural disasters.
It will strengthen the systems that use money to reduce the impact and response cost of disasters on people and assets, he added.
In the meeting, there was a detailed discussion on the feedback of the Sub National Governance (SNG) second program, external debt of KP, Disaster Risk Financing Strategy of the province and steps to increase local revenue of the province.
While the development director of the British High Commissioner said that the performance of the sub-national governance program’s staff will also be monitored to get the desired results.
Muzzammil Aslam, while thanking the delegation of the British High Commission, presented an honorary shield to the Development Director Jo Moir and appreciated the mutual cooperation.
