Elected local bodies representatives, led by Mayor Hafiz Muhammad Sayed, staged a protest rally to demand restoration of Local Government Act in its original form and immediate provision of promised funds to all local bodies in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Addressing the rally, Mayor Takht Bhai tehsil warned if the provincial government did not ensure provision of funds and power for local bodies they would hold a sit-in outside the KP Assembly building.
The local body representatives raised serious reservations over the inaction of the government to resolve the issues of local bodies and provide them with promised funds and powers. They maintained that the KP government since its inception had paralyzed the local body system in the province.
The protesters demanded that the government should respect the public’s opinion and restore the powers, funds, and honors of the Nazimeen.
They threatened to hold a province-wide protest if their demands were not met.
The local body representatives held a rally on the Malakand road.
The protesters held placards in their hands inscribed with slogans against the provincial government for denying funds to local body members.
