The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Oil Company is set to enter into an agreement for a high-capacity Thal Block Miran Shah joint venture with leading public sector companies.
This announcement was made by the advisor to KP chief minister on finance Muzammil Aslam.
According to an official handout, Muzammil Aslam stated that the venture aims to harness the province’s vast energy potential, with Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization (PEDO) emerging as Pakistan’s most advanced power generation company for clean and green energy production.
Aslam highlighted that KP produces 42 percent of the country’s oil and 13 pc of gas, with expectations of large discoveries in the oil, gas, and energy sector.
The province is currently generating 171 MW of electricity from seven hydro projects, with ten more projects underway, valued at1.2 billion dollars.
The adviser emphasized that the cost of generation will be less than Rs. 10 per unit, making it an attractive option for industries.
Additionally, plans are underway to establish an independent power sector regulatory authority, with a transmission line license already obtained.
The KP Oil Company and PEDO will organize road shows in Karachi and Lahore next month to showcase the province’s energy portfolio to the industrial sector.
