PESHAWAR: The ongoing teachers’ strike at the University of Agriculture, Peshawar, has intensified, halting academic activities for several days. Despite a broad agenda being presented for resolution, a detailed discussion on the agenda was absent, prompting syndicate members to request a review of the meeting minutes to ensure alignment with decisions taken. Association President Prof Dr Humayun Khan criticized the predominance of junior-grade officers in significant university posts, including the Executive Director, Convener of GPC, Controller of Examinations, and Deputy Director of Planning and Development. He noted that these appointments contravene the University Act, 2016, and referenced a recent Supreme Court judgment on October 23, 2024, mandating consistent, criteria-based selection for university roles. Dr Khan also highlighted that key administrative roles, such as Registrar, Director of Finance, and Provost, are held by temporary appointees and emphasized the need for broader representation in key committees, which he claims are currently dominated by a specific group from the Planning and Development department.
