Advisor to the Chief Minister on finance Muzammil Aslam has urged the federal government to release funds for the completion of Accelerated Implementation Programme (AIP) in the merged districts.
According to a statement issued here on Thursday provincial advisor for finance has written a letter to the Federal Minister of Finance urging the immediate release of Rs 8.46 billion for development activities under AIP programme for the erstwhile Fata.
In his letter, Aslam highlighted that the federal government has allocated a total of Rs 42.315 billion for the merged districts under AIP for the current year. However, he noted that only 15 percent of the total funds have been released so far for the first quarter.
As per the established policy, the release of funds follows a quarterly distribution, with 15 percent allocated in the first quarter, 20 percent in the second quarter, 25 percent in the third, and 40 percent in the fourth. As the second quarter is nearing its end, Aslam emphasized that the federal government should release the remaining 20 percent (Rs 8.46 billion) of the allocated funds to avoid disruption in development activities.
The letter also referred to the policy that grants the authority to release funds from the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) budget to the Planning and Development Division. With only 15 percent released for the first quarter, the release of funds for the second quarter should follow the policy guidelines to ensure smooth implementation of development projects in the merged districts.
