The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Higher Education, Meena Khan Afridi has said that the incumbent provincial government was focusing on two key priorities including launching market oriented subjects in educational institutions and making universities financially self-sustainable.
He expressed these views during the inaugural ceremony of the newly established Institute of Health Sciences at the University of Peshawar. Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur formally inaugurated the institute while Secretary Higher Education Kamran Afridi, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Muhammad Naeem Qazi, faculty members, students, and media representatives also attended the inaugural ceremony.
The provincial minister said that the new institute marks a significant milestone for the University of Peshawar and serves as a stepping stone for the development of other important departments, including Computer Sciences, Medical Colleges, and Radiology.
“The goal of these initiatives is to produce graduates who not only serve society but also create employment opportunities instead of falling victim to unemployment” he added.
Referring to the vision of PTI founder chairman Imran Khan, he highlighted the importance of investing in human development, saying that the KP government is advancing educational institutions in line with this vision.
“Over the past year, under the leadership of the KP Chief Minister, universities across the province have received unprecedented financial support that was not provided in the previous decade” he further said.
He also announced the introduction of a ranking system to evaluate the performance of universities and colleges in KP, adding that under the ranking system, institutions will be ranked based on specific indicators, with high-performing institutions receiving financial assistance, awards, and incentives.
Addressing the students, the minister described them as the future of the nation and the greatest asset in the eyes of PTI founder Imran Khan. He urged students to focus wholeheartedly on their education to establish their identity not just in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa but across the globe.
