A protest demonstration was organized by the National Student Movement in front of the Peshawar Press Club (PPC) on Tuesday, highlighting the unrest in erstwhile Fata and the silence of political parties regarding the volatile situation in the belt.
The protest was led by Jamila Gilani, Central Information Secretary and Noman Wazir, President of the National Student Movement. The demonstrators raised slogans in support of peace and called for the active involvement of all stakeholders, political parties, and progressives in establishing stability in the tribal regions.
Speaking at the protest, Jamila Gilani and Noman Wazir expressed concern over the ongoing operations in the tribal areas, which have been taking place under various names for the past decade.
Despite these efforts, they argued that lasting peace has yet to be achieved. They warned that, like other areas such as Waziristan, the people of Peshawar and Charsadda may soon be forced to vacate their homes due to further military operations if political parties and Pashtun leaders in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa did not raise their voices effectively.
The leaders pointed out that, ten years ago, the military operation Zarb-e-Azb led to the destruction of markets and homes, leaving the people of Waziristan and other tribal areas still living as displaced victims.
Gilani and Wazir also highlighted the role of some politicians who, they claimed, have aligned themselves with the establishment, contributing to the political isolation of Pashtuns.
