An important meeting of the Provincial Task Force on Polio held here on Thursday, chaired by Chief Secretary Nadeem Aslam Chaudhry, to review ongoing efforts to eradicate polio in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According to a handout issued here, the meeting was attended by relevant administrative secretaries, senior officials of law enforcement agencies, coordinator EOC. The representatives of international aid organizations UNICEF and representatives of the World Health Organization, while officials, commissioners and deputies of the National Emergency Operations Center Islamabad Commissioners participated in the meeting through video link.
Nadeem Aslam Chaudhry directed authorities to adopt integrated strategies to control the polio virus in districts where positive environmental samples have been detected. He emphasized the need for strict action against negligent staff and urged a focused approach at the Union Council level to curb the virus.
The Chief Secretary called for a thorough investigation into the causes and the implementation of all necessary preventive measures. He stressed that polio prevention depends on a high-quality and well-monitored vaccination campaign, leaving no room for lapses. During a meeting to review the implementation of previous task force decisions, he instructed officials to ensure the availability of polio vaccines at fixed vaccination points and hospitals, alongside the door-to-door immunization drive. He also underscored the importance of addressing children’s overall health, nutrition, clean water supply, and sanitation as part of the broader polio eradication efforts.
The CS acknowledged the progress in some districts, particularly Bannu, and urged continued efforts to eliminate polio entirely, ensuring a safer future for children in KP.
