PESHAWAR: Officials of the Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) University Campus Peshawar have voiced concerns over the severe administrative and financial crisis facing three major universities in the Peshawar campus. They urged the provincial government to immediately appoint permanent vice-chancellors to address these challenges. IJT spokesperson Waqas Ahmed stated that Islamia College Peshawar, University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Peshawar, and other institutions have been awaiting the appointment of permanent vice-chancellors for several years. This prolonged delay has exacerbated administrative, financial, and academic issues, negatively impacting students’ academic progress and institutional performance. He further criticized the recent decision to assign the Vice-Chancellor of Khyber Medical University (KMU) as the acting Vice-Chancellor of Islamia College Peshawar, calling it an unfair and biased move. Ahmed argued that politically motivated appointments undermine the autonomy and merit-based governance of educational institutions, ultimately affecting the quality of education and institutional growth. IJT has strongly urged the provincial government to expedite the process of appointing permanent vice-chancellors to restore administrative stability, enhance curriculum reforms, and ensure a conducive learning environment for students.
