Speaker NA declines to constitute parliamentary committee forthwith

ISLAMABAD
Speaker National Assembly (NA) Sardar Ayyaz Sadiq has declined to constitute parliamentary committee immediately on the matter of appointment of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and two members.
The speaker has referred the letter written by opposition leader Omar Ayoub in this regard to ministry of parliamentary affairs for legal and constitutional opinion.
According to NA sources Omar Ayoub had written letter to speaker NA for constitution of parliamentary committee.
Speaker will give final decision regarding establishment of parliamentary committee on receipt of reply from ministry of parliamentary affairs.
Sources said the consultation between Prime Minister (PM) and opposition leader has not started as per article 213 (2) A. Consultation between both of them is must in connection with appointment of CEC.
Legal section of NA has given opinion parliamentary committee cannot be constituted without completion of consultation process.
According to sources the five years service term of CEC and two members has expired on January 26. CEC and two members are discharging their obligations despite completion of their service term. The incumbent set up will continue to work till the appointment of new CEC under article 215.
