Romanian tennis player Jaqueline Cristian has advanced to the third round of the 2024 French Open where she will face defending champion Iga Swiatek. Cristian, 26, ranked 60th in the WTA, won her second-round match against Czech Sara Bejlek, 1-6, 6-3, 6-3. Despite losing the first set, Cristian made a strong comeback to win after nearly two hours of play.
This marks Cristian’s best performance at a Grand Slam, matching her previous third-round appearance at the 2024 Australian Open.
With the win, she earned 130 WTA points and a prize of 158,000 euros. Cristian will meet Swiatek, the 23-year-old Polish player, for the first time in her career.
Swiatek, currently ranked 5th in the WTA, has claimed the French Open title four times (2020, 2022, 2023, and 2024).
