The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has finalized its candidates for the upcoming Senate elections from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), following the announcement of the revised election schedule by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
According to a notification issued by the party’s central secretariat in Islamabad, the list of candidates has been approved by PTI’s founding chairman, Imran Khan.
The candidates nominated for general seats are Murad Saeed, Faisal Javed, Irfan Saleem, Faiz ur Rehman, Khurram Zeeshan, and Shafqat Ayaz (as a backup). For technocrat seats, PTI has selected Azam Swati, Irshad Hussain, and Noor ul Haq Qadri. Aysha Bano and Rubina Naz have been nominated for the women’s reserved seats.
Imran Khan has instructed all other PTI members who filed nomination papers to withdraw from the Senate race. The ECP has officially announced the schedule for the Senate elections in KP and Punjab, which had been delayed due to an incomplete electoral college and other procedural issues. The polling for 11 Senate seats in KP will now be held on July 21, 2025. These include seven general seats, two reserved seats for women, and two reserved seats for technocrats and ulema.
The elections were initially scheduled for April 2, 2024, but were postponed after the Speaker of the KP Assembly refused to administer the oath to members elected on reserved seats, leading to legal and procedural delays.
