The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a high alert across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) as heavy monsoon rains, accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms, are expected from July 14 to 17 in most districts.
Intermittent downpours are forecast in Dir, Swat, Chitral, Kohistan, Malakand, Shangla, Buner, Kohat, Karak, Bannu, DI Khan, Waziristan, and several other districts. The PDMA has warned of potential flooding in local rivers and canals, particularly in Galiyat, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Chitral, Nowshera, Swabi, and Mardan, along with the risk of landslides in mountainous regions.
In view of the situation, PDMA has instructed the district administrations, Rescue 1122, and relief teams to stay on high alert and mobilize resources. Traffic control measures are being enforced in sensitive areas, and the cleanliness of drainage systems is being ensured to prevent urban flooding.
Farmers have been advised to harvest and store crops securely, while livestock owners are urged to take precautionary steps to protect animals. Travelers are warned to exercise caution on highways and consider alternate routes.
Tragically, heavy rains over the past 24 hours have claimed six lives, including four children, and left one child injured. Three houses have been partially damaged in incidents reported from Khyber, Malakand, Kohat, and Bajaur districts. The PDMA has directed the provision of immediate relief and medical aid to the affected.
