The Artist Action Foundation has called on the Pakistan Television (PTV) Headquarters to immediately release funds for the PTV Peshawar Center, enabling the revival of drama and other cultural productions, and ensuring employment opportunities for artists in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
In a press conference, representatives of the Foundation expressed deep concern over the prolonged inactivity at the Peshawar Center, which has left numerous artists and technicians jobless for over three years.
They urged the PTV management to address the financial constraints that have hindered programming at the regional center.
Speaking at the event, Foundation spokesperson Muhammad Ilyas Khan highlighted that the PTV Peshawar Center has always been a platform for local talent.
He praised General Manager Ibrahim Kamal, noting that since taking charge, Kamal has remained committed to supporting artists and promoting art in the province. “He has opened his office and even his chair to artists, proving himself to be a true friend of the creative community,” Khan said.
Another representative, Arshad Hussain, pointed out the disparity in operations between the Peshawar Center and other regional centers.
“Karachi and Lahore centers are active with private productions and consistent programming, while the Peshawar Center has remained silent due to a lack of funding,” he said. “Our artists continue to face financial and psychological distress due to this prolonged unemployment.”
The Artist Action Foundation, a registered body representing regional artists, appealed to the PTV Headquarters to ensure an equitable distribution of resources.
“Reviving the Peshawar Center will not only provide work to hundreds of artists and technicians, but will also help preserve and promote the cultural heritage of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” the Foundation emphasized.
