SWABI: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf senior leader and former National Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser on Friday distributed relief cheques among families affected by recent floods in Dalori and Sarkoi areas of Gadoon. The cheques, worth Rs2 million each, were handed over on behalf of the provincial government in the presence of Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Haji Rangez Khan, Tehsil Chairman Swabi Attaullah Khan, Deputy Commissioner Swabi and other officials. Speaking on the occasion,Asad Qaiser said the government would utilize all possible resources for the rehabilitation of affected families and compensation of their losses. He added that the district administration, along with welfare organizations, had performed effectively during the recent cloudburst and floods. He warned that fresh torrential rains had been forecast and instructed the district administration to take precautionary measures in coordination with all relevant departments. Asad Qaiser credited the Bada Dam for preventing large-scale destruction, as it stored 65,000 cusecs of water, sparing several localities from flooding. Online

He rejected what he termed as “baseless propaganda” against the project, saying the dam was initiated during PTI’s tenure and completed under the caretaker government. Any negligence in its construction, he maintained, should be investigated and those responsible penalised. He further said that the government is working on a plan to utilise the dam for provision of clean drinking water to resolve shortages in Gadoon.
Asad Qaiser also directed the administration to ensure early restoration of link roads and bridges in Tehsil Topi, particularly in Gadoon, to normalize daily life in the affected areas.
