FOP empowers bankers to serve clients with disabilities

PESHAWAR: Friends of Paraplegics (FOP), the welfare body of person with disabilities (PwDs), inspired a wave of change in inclusive banking with a dynamic one-day workshop titled “Serving Banking Clients with Physical, Visual, Hearing and Speech Impairments”. Held at the CPMR Hall of the Paraplegic Center Peshawar (PCP), the event brought together 11 dedicated officials from leading banks, including National Bank of Pakistan (NBP), Bank of Khyber (BoK) and Al Baraka Bank, to master the art of serving clients with disabilities with respect and efficiency, advancing financial inclusion. Dr. Samina Bibi, FOP’s Project Manager, opened the workshop with a warm welcome, while Engr. Irfan Ullah, GS FoP, passionately underscored its mission to align with the State Bank of Pakistan’s disability inclusion policies. The training captivated participants with hands-on sessions led by experts: M Javed, a Sign Language Expert, shared techniques for assisting clients with hearing and speech impairments; Engr. Irfan Ullah offered insights on serving those with physical, hearing,l and visual challenges; and Dr. Adnan Malik, an industry expert and Assistant Professor, outlined strategies to enhance financial inclusion for the disability community. Through lively discussions, role-plays and interactive activities, bankers gained a deeper understanding of the barriers faced by clients with disabilities and honed skills to serve them with dignity.
The workshop concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony, wherein Dr. Syed Muhammad Ilyas, CEO of Paraplegic Center Peshawar, joined as chief guest and flanked by Engr. SanaUllah Khan and Dr. Adnan Malik to honor the participants.
