Pakistan Railways has initiated a large-scale programme to digitize and automate its network to enhance safety, reduce delays, and improve passenger and freight services across the country.
According to Pakistan Railways, advanced communication and signaling systems are being installed on key sections of the railway.
The upgrade includes a computerized interlocking system at Landhi, Jummagoth, Badal Nala, and Sarhad stations, replacing manual controls to improve train routing and accident prevention. The telecom system on the Karachi-Lahore section is also being modernized with a digital microwave radio communication system to ensure secure and uninterrupted data transmission for train operations.
In addition, a Push-to-Talk digital communication network is being rolled out in Rawalpindi, Lahore, Sukkur, and Karachi divisions to strengthen real-time coordination between field staff and control rooms.
