Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Shahab Ali Shah chaired a high-level review meeting of the Elementary and Secondary Education Department under the Good Governance Roadmap, where detailed briefings were given on ongoing reforms.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary Elementary and Secondary Education, Secretary Finance and other senior officials.
The forum reviewed key targets including the provision of furniture in schools, construction of classrooms, availability of teachers, reforms in the examination system, and the proposal to outsource the weakest performing schools. The Chief Secretary was briefed on the additional classrooms required, the financial resources needed, and the proposed plan.
The provincial government is working to ensure that each school has six classrooms and at least four teachers. The Education Department has already identified schools where classrooms and teaching staff are urgently required. A summary on school outsourcing will be placed before the next cabinet meeting.
It was decided that the Education and Finance Departments will jointly prepare a plan for classroom construction, while rationalization will be undertaken to address teacher shortages. The supply of school furniture is also set to commence shortly.
On examination reforms, the meeting was informed that the system will be digitized to ensure transparency and merit. The new system will include e-marking and SLO-based automated paper setting. A dedicated data center will be established at the Peshawar Board to serve all educational boards, and special training sessions will be arranged to enhance staff capacity.
Furthermore, the Elementary and Secondary Education Foundation will launch an online teaching initiative in 50 schools with internet connectivity but lacking science teachers. The project aims to provide science education through digital platforms.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Secretary said that addressing shortages of classrooms and teachers, outsourcing underperforming schools, and reforming the examination system are among the top priorities of the provincial government. He directed that all necessary preparations in this regard must be completed within the prescribed timelines.
