Advisor to the Chief Minister on Finance and Inter-Provincial Coordination Muzzammil Aslam has said that KP’s swift and comprehensive flood relief measures have forced the Punjab government to take notice and begin making delayed announcements.
Speaking to the media, Aslam said that KP has set a precedent by announcing a compensation package of Rs. 2 million for individuals who lost their lives in the floods, adding that Punjab has yet to offer any such package.
“Similarly, KP is providing Rs 500,000 for those injured in flood-related incidents, in contrast to Punjab’s silence on injury support,” he added.
He further noted that KP is distributing Rs 15,000 worth of ration per affected household, whereas Punjab has made no such provision.
For property losses, both provinces are offering Rs1 million for completely destroyed houses.
However, for partially damaged homes, KP is offering Rs 300,000, while Punjab has announced Rs 500,000.
The KP government is also compensating flood-affected shop owners with Rs 500,000 and providing Rs 100,000 for homes inundated with slit categories for which Punjab has not yet announced any aid.
Aslam added that compensation for lost livestock in KP is under cabinet review and an agricultural relief package for crop damage will be announced soon.
In contrast, Punjab has only proposed a Rs20,000 agricultural package, while KP has already disbursed significant funds.
