Two key ministers in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) cabinet tendered their resignations on Tuesday, just a day after Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur held a detailed meeting with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding chairman Imran Khan at Adiala Jail.
The resignations, submitted by Irrigation Minister Aqib Ullah Khan and Education Minister Faisal Khan Tarakai, come on the heels of a major political rally in Peshawar, where speculation had already been rife about growing unrest and divisions within the provincial cabinet.
According to party insiders, further reshuffles in the KP cabinet are likely in the coming days as the leadership looks to tighten control and reorganize the provincial administration.
In his resignation letter, Aqib Ullah Khan stated: “With utmost respect, I, Aqib Ullah Khan, hereby tender my resignation from the office of Minister for Irrigation, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.”
Similarly, Faisal Khan Tarakai, in his resignation note, expressed gratitude towards PTI’s top leadership, stating: “It has been an honour to serve in this capacity, entrusted to me by our leader, Imran Khan. I remain highly indebted to him for his confidence in me and for the opportunity to contribute to the transformation and uplift of the Education Department and system in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.”
Both ministers are close relatives of senior PTI figures , Aqib Ullah is the brother of former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, while Faisal Tarakai is the brother of former minister Shahram Tarakai. Sources indicate that CM Gandapur had been considering removing both ministers for some time, and the resignations may have been prompted by internal pressure following his meeting with Imran Khan.
The latest development marks a turning point in the province’s political dynamics and could signal a broader realignment within the PTI-led government in KP.
