A high-level meeting regarding the establishment of the Media Enclave in the New Peshawar Valley Housing Scheme was held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Secretary, Shahab Ali Shah.
The meeting was attended by Secretary Information and Public Relations Dr. Muhammad Bakhtiar Khan, Press Registrar Ansar Khilji, Director General Housing Imran Wazir, President Peshawar Press Club M. Riaz, and senior journalists.
The Chief Secretary directed all concerned departments to complete the groundwork and necessary formalities by October this year, ensuring that original allotment letters are handed over to journalists by the Chief Minister in November.
Terming the project a key initiative of the provincial government, Shahab Ali Shah said the Media Enclave was a long-standing demand of the journalist community. He emphasized timely delivery, reiterating the government’s commitment to the welfare of media professionals.
He further announced that, on the recommendation of Peshawar Press Club President M. Riaz, similar housing schemes would be identified in other districts to provide secure and planned residential facilities to journalists across the province.
Underscoring the government’s vision for climate-resilient development, the Chief Secretary stated that allottees in new housing schemes would be required to plant a specified number of trees according to the size of their plots. He also made it clear that no housing schemes would be allowed in green or cultivated areas, with only barren land (brownfield sites) to be used, to safeguard agricultural zones and the environment. President Peshawar Press Club M. Riaz appreciated the Chief Secretary’s efforts, noting that what once seemed like an impossible project had become a reality due to his personal commitment and support to the journalist community.
Earlier, Director General Housing Imran Wazir gave a detailed presentation on the New Peshawar Valley Housing Scheme, outlining progress, connectivity, access points, and planned facilities, including green belts.
Prominent journalists including Shamim Shahid, Ismail Khan, Arshad Aziz Malik, Kashifuddin, and Faridullah Khan were also present at the meeting.
