The China Power Hub Generation Company (CPHGC) has marked its 10th anniversary of energy, development, and Pakistan–China collaboration under the umbrella of the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). From transforming barren land into a state-of-the-art power project, CPHGC has been at the forefront of Pakistan’s energy sector. Over the past decade, the company has achieved remarkable milestones, driven by the dedication and joint efforts of both Chinese and Pakistani employees.
The 1,320 MW power plant, a joint venture between China Power International Holding Limited (CPIH) and The Hub Power Company (HUBCO), began operations in 2019. Since then, it has become one of the flagship projects of CPEC, ensuring a consistent supply of electricity to millions of homes across the country. To date, CPHGC has generated more than 24 billion kWh of electricity, illuminating over four million households and easing Pakistan’s energy shortfall.
During its construction phase, the project created more than 6,000 jobs. Today, CPHGC’s workforce comprises 70% Pakistanis and 30% Chinese—evidence of its effective localization policy and enduring spirit of collaboration.
In recognition of its performance, CPHGC has received accolades on both national and international stages. In 2022, the company became the first overseas project to win Pakistan’s National Excellence Gold Award. The following year, the Government of Pakistan honored CPHGC with the CPEC Outstanding Contribution Award.
The company’s focus on sustainability has been equally commendable—reducing carbon emissions by millions of tonnes, upholding world-class safety standards, and amassing 74 awards in both Pakistan and China.
Beyond energy generation, CPHGC has earned respect for its strong community engagement, through development initiatives across Pakistan. The company has partnered with The Citizens Foundation (TCF) to support education in Balochistan, while also signing an MoU with The Hunar Foundation to provide technical training for students. In addition, CPHGC has launched ration donation programs during Ramadan and has delivered emergency aid to communities affected by natural disasters such as floods. Together, these initiatives highlight the company’s commitment to corporate social responsibility and to improving lives beyond the power grid.
As CPHGC enters its second decade of operations, its mission is clear: to continue addressing Pakistan’s energy needs while embracing cleaner, more sustainable, and innovative solutions. This milestone is not only a testament to CPHGC’s role in strengthening Pakistan’s energy security, but also a symbol of the enduring friendship between Pakistan and China.
With a decade of success behind it, CPHGC stands as a beacon of strength, collaboration, and development—powering Pakistan toward a brighter future.
