Lahore(Online):Pakistan Awami Tehreek has issued a white Paper on the educational policies of the government, which stated that the standard of education in the country almost worst in the world.
Relesing the White Paper PAT Leaders Basharat Jaspal, Fayyaz Warraich and Brig(Retd)Mohammed Mushtaq have said that over $ 54 million aid given by donors for education have been misappropriated.
They said that according to the UNESCO Global Digest in 2010 that after China and India, Pakistan was the third largest recipient that was given aid to the tunes of $541 million for the education sector.
They said that despite recieving huge amoun, the literacy rate did not improve but rather fell and no development worth noting has been witnessed in the country.
The White Paper noted that in Punjab alone there are over 900 government educational institutions are functioning without any head and over 500 schools have been illegally occupied and the government is oblivious of this fact and does not act against the occupants.
The Punjab Government has failed to achieve even a single goal it set for itself in the Millennium Development Goals for 2015. These goals included 100 per cent enrollment in schools for children of school-going age. For children of class one to class five the presence and enrollment figures set could also not be achieved.
The White Paper claimed that in the whole world the least amount was spend on education in the South Punjab, which is shameful for Pakistan and its rulers who daily issue tall claims on development in the media. The Papers said that India spends 3.9 per cent of its GDP on education while Iran spends 4.7pc, Turkey 6pc, Bhutan 4.9pc and Pakistan only 2pc.
