Srinagar (Online): In occupied Kashmir, curfew and other restrictions marked by protest rallies continued to paralyze normal life for the 93rd consecutive day in the Kashmir Valley.
According to Kashmir Media Service, main markets remained closed while public transport was off the road.
People flouting curfew and other restrictions, took to the streets across the territory and held protests against the killing of a minor boy, Junaid Ahmed by Indian forces.
Candlelight vigils were held in Srinagar and Bandipore areas. The boy succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in Srinagar, yesterday.
Meanwhile, dozens of people were injured some of them critically when police fired pellets and teargas shells on protesters everywhere in the Valley.
The forces barged into houses, beat up inmates and vandalized houses. Brute force was used on women protesters in Narbal area of Badgam district. The forces’ personnel fired teargas canisters on schoolchildren who were protesting in Kani Pora area of Srinagar against the holding annual exams next month.
The students, holding schoolbags on their backs, were intercepted by police personnel near the Kani Pora railway bridge. The students also condemned the killing of schoolboy Junaid Ahmad.
On the other hand, over 450 people out of more than 8,500 arrested during the biggest crackdown in over two decades have been booked under the draconian Public Safety Act during the past three months.
The Tehreek-e-Hurriyet Jammu and Kashmir in a statement issued in Srinagar condemned the widespread arrest spree unleashed by Indian forces in the territory.
