Tanzeem-e-Asatza Khyber on Thrusday urged the government to address the severe teacher shortage in merged districts schools and restore former contract based hired teachers to ensure academic continuity in the best interest of the deprived tribal people.
Tanzeem-e-Asatza district Khyber held a key meeting chaired by president Sharifullah Afridi, in which participants discussed the severe shortage of teachers in the district’s schools.
The meeting emphasized that more than 650 teachers were urgently needed in both boys’ and girls’ primary schools in district Khyber to meet the Student-Teacher Ratio (STR) standards. The participants demanded that the shortage of teaching staff must be addressed immediately to prevent further loss of students’ valuable academic time.
Sharufullah Afridi said that a large number of teachers were hired on contractual basis. He said the contract teachers worked for almost two years and their contracts were not extended after it. He said those already devoted their time to teaching at government run schools must be reinstated to fill the gap of teachers shortage.
It was also highlighted that the previously recruited higher teachers had demonstrated excellent performance. The meeting unanimously passed a resolution calling for the reinstatement of former contract based teachers to maintain educational continuity and improve the quality of teaching.
The teachers’ association urged the public and private educational institutions to take up the teacher shortage in Khyber and other merged districts seriously during tomorrow’s meeting so that they could adopt practical measures to resolve the issue.
