Peopleís Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti has announced that her party has introduced the Jammu and Kashmir Land Rights and Regularisation Bill, 2025 ó also referred to as the ìAnti-Bulldozer Billî ó in the Legislative Assembly to safeguard residents from arbitrary evictions and land seizures in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Mehbooba Mufti said the proposed bill aims to secure ownership rights for individuals and institutions that have occupied land for more than three decades. She said the bill is designed to ensure socio-economic stability and prevent forced displacement.
Mufti highlighted the growing land crisis in Gulmarg and other parts of the region, where the imposition of Land Grant Rules, 2022, has blocked lease renewals, threatening dozens of heritage hotels with eviction. ìNearly 60 hotels, including Nedous and Highlands Park, have been served takeover notices,î she said, adding that the move has caused financial distress for many local entrepreneurs.
