Restoration of Bajaur sports complex to begin soon: Sports dept

The spokesperson for the Sports and Youth Affairs Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has announced that the government will soon begin restoration work on the Bajaur Sports Complex, which was damaged during its temporary use as a relief camp for victims of the recent operation in Bajaur District.
Under the public welfare agenda of the provincial government and on the special instructions of Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah, Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs, and Director General Sports, the Director Sports Tribal Districts recently visited the complex to assess the damage.
The spokesperson said that after the honorable return of the victims, the complex has been vacated, but significant damage was found, particularly to the cricket and football grounds, which are currently unfit for play. An estimated Rs 80 million has been allocated for the restoration of the sports complex, and work is expected to commence soon.
During the visit, Director Works Sports, Deputy Director Sports, and District Sports Officer Bajaur were also present. The delegation conducted a detailed review of the affected facilities and prepared a comprehensive report for immediate rehabilitation measures.
The spokesperson emphasized that the restoration project aims to provide young players with improved sports opportunities and to revive healthy recreational activities in the region.
He added that, following the directives of the Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs KP, practical steps are being taken to restore and promote sports infrastructure across all tribal districts, including Bajaur.
“The government is committed to offering the youth positive activities and modern sports opportunities. Restoring the Bajaur Sports Complex will help promote peace, harmony, and healthy social engagement in the area,” the spokesperson said.
He further stated that the Sports and Youth Affairs Department is implementing a comprehensive strategy to strengthen sports infrastructure across the province and channel the talents of the youth in a positive direction.
