ISLAMABAD: An oncologist Thursday declared during ‘Breast Cancer Awareness Month’ that early treatment can reduce mortality by 40% and raised alarm over the 90,000 women affected annually by this lethal disease calling for urgent awareness and early intervention. While speaking with a local news channel, leading surgeon and oncologist Dr. Sana Zeeshan emphasized the critical importance of early detection in breast cancer. She explained that identifying the disease at an early stage not only significantly increases the chances of successful treatment but also drastically reduces the emotional and physical toll on patients, adding, early diagnosis allows women to seek timely medical intervention, improving survival rates and quality of life. Expert highlighted the financial benefits of early detection, adding, treating breast cancer in its initial stages is far less expensive than managing advanced cancer, which often requires more complex and prolonged treatments.
She urged all women to prioritize regular self-examinations and medical check-ups and called on healthcare providers to strengthen awareness campaigns and provide easier access to screening facilities.“Early detection can save lives and protect families from financial hardship,” Dr. Zeeshan said, stressing that increased vigilance and education are key to combating breast cancer effectively.
Responding a query, Sana Zeeshan specifically highlighted October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, urging women to use this time to learn about the key symptoms such as lumps in the breast, changes in breast shape or size, nipple discharge and persistent pain.
