ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has recommended for making amendment in the constitution to extend tenure of the care taker government. ECP has recommended to make amendment in Article 224-1 of the constitution. ECP legal reform committee has sent the recommendations to ministry of parliamentary affairs. The recommendation said the polls in respect of assemblies be held in 120 days instead of 90 days in the event of dissolution of assemblies. ECP has recommended for holding the election within 90 days instead of 60 days on expiry of term of assembly. It was also recommended by ECP that the period for election campaign be enhanced from 28 days to 45 days. ECP sources said it has to face difficulties in ballot papers printing due to schedule and court’s proceedings. The objective for extending the period for preparations of general election is ensuring transparency. ONLINE
