PESHAWAR: The Accountability Court has extended the physical remand of Abdul Basit, the frontman of the main accused in the Upper Kohistan financial scandal, for another five days. According to official sources on Monday, Abdul Basit was produced before the Accountability Court, where NAB’s Special Prosecutor Habibullah Baig and the investigating officer were also present. Judge Hamid Mughal approved the extension in remand, citing ongoing investigations. Abdul Basit, who served as a junior clerk in the C W (Communication and Works) Department, was found to be the frontman of the main accused, Qaiser Iqbal. Investigators revealed that through Basit, Qaiser Iqbal carried out financial transactions worth 700 million rupees across various accounts. Transaction records and related evidence were also recovered from Basit’s possession. In addition, gold worth millions of rupees, luxury vehicles and other valuables were seized from the accused’s residence. The investigating officer informed the court that Basit made further disclosures during interrogation and the investigation is still underway. The court accepted the NAB officer’s request and extended Basit’s remand for five more days. APP
