RAIWIND: A case was registered at Raiwind police station against a man who had rented a portion of his house to Afghan refugees. As per the text of the FIR registered against Ahmad Khan Zaryab, the house owner, who hail from Quetta, on the complaint of the state, he did not get these Afghans registered with the police station, and that he deliberately gave shelter to them. It was further stated that the house owner also violated the Tenancy Act. Pakistan has been expelling the Afghans living on its soil for the last four decades for the last several years, especially in the aftermath of the May 9 incidents of violence in which several Afghans were found to be involved. Three weeks ago, the Punjab government had launched the third phase of deporting illegal Afghan residents. The government is identifying the Afghan nationals, who have no legal documents or have overstayed for more than a year.
Punjab IGP Dr Usman Anwar says the police are on high alert across the province and ensuring picking up of illegally residing Afghan nationals for their repatriation as per international laws.
