Promotion of sports activities, rehabilitation of grounds key priorities, says Tarand

Advisor to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sports and Youth Affairs, Taj Muhammad Khan Tarand, visited the Directorate of Sports after assuming charge of his office. On this occasion, he chaired an important briefing session attended by Secretary Sports Saadat Hassan, Director General Sports Tashfeen Haider, Director Merged Districts, Director Operations, and other relevant officers.
During the meeting, officials briefed the Advisor on departmental matters, the construction and rehabilitation of sports facilities across the province and merged districts, establishment of sports grounds at the tehsil level, construction of indoor gymnasiums for women, progress on the ongoing work at Imran Khan Cricket Stadium, as well as ongoing and new projects under the Annual Development Program and Accelerated Implementation Program .
The Advisor was informed that sports facilities in the merged districts particularly North and South Waziristan are in the final stages of completion, while new futsal grounds will also be built in merged districts. Additionally, inter- and intra-district sports events will be organized across the province, including events for women, minorities, and madrasa students.
It was further informed that 85 tehsil-level sports projects have been completed across the province, while work on 10 more tehsils is ongoing. Moreover, the feasibility study for establishing a biomechanics laboratory has been completed, which will provide facilities for sports injury rehabilitation and surgeries.
On the occasion, Advisor Taj Muhammad Tarand stated that under the leadership of the Chief Minister and in line with the vision of PTI founder Imran Khan, providing quality sports facilities to youth and engaging them in healthy activities is a top priority of the provincial government. He directed that sports grounds be established in all tehsils of the province and emphasized strict adherence to merit in the selection of players to ensure that the best talent emerges.
He also instructed that all sports facilities be completed within the stipulated time with high-quality standards, and that no advance payments be made to contractors of sports projects. The Advisor emphasized the importance of teamwork within the department and directed that cleanliness be maintained in all sports venues.
Taj Muhammad Tarand reaffirmed that the promotion of sports and youth development is a key and integral part of the government’s and party manifesto, and that all possible steps will be taken to project the potential of youth at international level. He further instructed that monthly review meetings be held on departmental matters and that cases regarding any challenges in ongoing sports schemes be prepared and presented so that they can be addressed through the relevant forums.
