Five terrorists were killed in a gunbattle with a joint team of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police and Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in border area of Lakki Marwat and Bannu after the local tribesmen foiled militants’ attempt to storm a religious seminary on Saturday.
Tribesmen clashed with some 20 terrorists and did not let them enter the madrassa, and informed the police about their presence.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Zulfiqar Hameed said that after receiving information about presence of 15 to 20 terrorists in the area, Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and local police swiftly launched an operation.
After a quick response from the joint CTD-police team and local tribesmen, the terrorists failed to enter the madrassah.
In the ensuing firefight, five terrorists were sent to hell on the spot and the rest were fled.
Regional Police Officer (RPO) Bannu Sajjad Ahmad said that a search operation has been launched to hunt down the remaining terrorists.
