A delegation of the Bettani Tribe from Lakki Marwat, led by Maulana Anwar Bacha, Mayor of Subdivision Lakki Marwat, met Speaker Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Babar Saleem Swati at the Assembly Secretariat on Tuesday. MPA Ihtesham Khan and Sajadullah Khan were also present.
The delegation informed the Speaker that the oil and gas royalty agreement between the Bettani Tribe and SNGPL/OGDCL had yet to be implemented. They said that despite clear commitments, the community had not received its due share, causing widespread concern and frustration among local residents.
Speaker Babar Saleem Swati listened to the grievances and assured the delegation that the matter would be taken up at the highest level. He has formally written to the Chief Minister KP, enclosing the original application filed by the Bettani community along with supporting documents and evidence presented in the local jirga.
In his letter, the Speaker requested the Chief Minister to review the matter urgently and direct the relevant authorities to ensure that the tribe receives its rightful royalties in accordance with the agreement.
The Speaker said the issue was directly linked to public interest and regional rights, warning that further delays could lead to unrest or administrative difficulties in the area. He assured the delegation that the Provincial Assembly, within its constitutional mandate, would fully support the legitimate rights of the Bettani Tribe and strive to ensure progress within the next fifteen days.
