DLP Report
PESHAWAR
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has warned of worsening smog and fog in the plains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to ongoing dry and cold weather conditions.
The affected districts include Peshawar, Charsadda, Swabi, Mardan, and Dera Ismail Khan.
Authorities have cautioned that visibility on major routes such as the M-1 Motorway and GT Road is likely to remain low during night and morning hours, posing risks for commuters. The increase in smog has been declared harmful, particularly for respiratory and asthma patients, prompting the public to adopt safety measures.
PDMA has advised residents to wear N95 or KN95 masks when venturing outdoors, keep windows and doors closed, and avoid burning candles or wood indoors. Elderly people and children are urged to take special care, while the public is advised to limit unnecessary travel and make use of public transport or carpooling whenever possible.
Local administrations have been instructed to take preventive measures, intensify action against industrial smoke and garbage burning, and conduct awareness campaigns in schools. PDMA has also urged anyone facing emergencies to contact the helpline at 1700.
