ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan has issued a formal demarche to the Norwegian Ambassador, expressing strong concern over the diplomat’s attendance at a Supreme Court hearing related to Iman Mazari on November 11, 2025. In the demarche, Pakistan termed the ambassador’s presence as “deliberate interference in internal matters” and a violation of the Vienna Convention 1961. Citing Article 41 of the Convention, the ministry emphasized that diplomats are obliged to respect the laws of the host country and refrain from involvement in its domestic affairs. The note also highlighted a pattern of Norwegian NGO activities allegedly supporting elements considered hostile to the Pakistani state. Pakistan stressed that court cases involving individuals accused of anti-state activities are highly sensitive, and any association by diplomatic staff with such elements is unacceptable. Pakistan reaffirmed its respect for Norway’s sovereignty and called on the Norwegian side to reciprocate by observing diplomatic norms and the Vienna Convention in future engagements. Online
