Attack on polio team in Bajaur kills two

Policeman, passer-by sustained injuries and later succumbed to their wounds, say police

An attack on an anti-polio vaccination team in Bajaur district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has resulted in the death of a police officer and a civilian.
According to police on Tuesday, the incident occurred in Tangi area of Salarzai tehsil, where unknown assailants opened fire on a polio vaccination team during an ongoing immunization campaign.
As a result of the firing, a police personnel assigned to protect the team and a civilian were injured.
Both the injured were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. However, despite efforts by doctors, the cop and civilian succumbed to their injuries.
Following the incident, police cordoned off the area and launched an investigation to trace the attackers. Security has been tightened in the region as authorities continue efforts to ensure the safety of polio workers and continue the vaccination drive.
