Governor Kundi highlights minority rights at Christmas ceremony

A colourful Christmas celebration was held in Peshawar under the auspices of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Minority Wing. Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi attended the event as chief guest.
Among those present were former governor Engineer Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, MNA Noor Alam Khan, MPA Malik Tariq Awan, minority MPAs Askar Pervez, Gorpal Singh and Suresh Kumar, women MPAs Shazia Tehmash, Amna Sardar, Ashbar Jan Jadoon and Farzana Shereen, Chairman Red Crescent Society, religious leaders including Pastor Joseph, Pastor Kashif, Pastor Aamir, Pastor Asif Bhatti and Pastor Arshad Gul, along with former PPP Minority Wing general secretary Yasir Bhatti and a large number of men, women and children from minority communities across the province.
The governor cut the Christmas cake along with members of the Christian community and extended Christmas greetings. A special prayer was offered, while children presented a tableau and sang a Christmas song.
Addressing the ceremony, Governor Faisal Karim Kundi said that Christmas conveys a message of sharing joys and sorrows, promoting mutual respect and strengthening unity beyond differences. He said the celebration at the Governor House reflected the shared happiness of all Pakistani citizens.
He said the foundation of Pakistan is based on tolerance and religious freedom, and the Constitution guarantees equal rights to all citizens without discrimination. The governor acknowledged the valuable services of the Christian community in education, health, social welfare and nation-building, calling it a bright chapter in the country’s history.
He said the Pakistan Peoples Party has consistently protected minority rights, particularly those of the Christian community, by ensuring their personal and social freedoms and recognising their services through representation at high levels. He stressed the need for collective efforts to project the soft image of KP.
