An important meeting was held under the chairmanship of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for local government Meena Khan Afridi, a handout said.
The meeting was attended by secretary local government Zafarul Islam, director general local government, and other senior officials.
The statement said that the discussion was focused on making the posting and transfer policy more effective and improving the overall performance of employees of the local government department.
Officials briefed the meeting that job descriptions and performance measurement indicators for local government employees are in the final stages of completion. The minister directed that no employee approaching retirement should be transferred during the last six months of service.
It was recommended that disciplinary action be taken against officers transferred without approval of the Placement Committee.
The meeting decided to link employee performance with efforts to enhance revenue generation of subordinate institutions during their respective postings.
Minister Meena Khan Afridi said no employee would be allowed to delay official matters, adding that accountability would be ensured at all levels. He clarified that no new local government taxes would be imposed on the public, nor would existing taxes be increased. However, municipal officers were directed to expand the tax net.
The minister stated that, for the first time in the province, formal job descriptions and performance indicators were being introduced for local government employees, and everyone, from the secretary to the watchman, will be held accountable.
Expressing concern over the limited role of regional municipal officers, Meena Khan Afridi directed that clear responsibilities be assigned to improve their performance.
