BAGH, AJK
All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter Convener Ghulam Muhammad Safi has said that the United Nations resolution passed on January 5, 1949, is a clear and unambiguous guarantee of the right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people, but unfortunately, India continues to deviate from this international promise despite the passage of over seven decades.
Ghulam Muhammad Safi, addressing a press conference at the Press Club of Bagh city, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, said the Kashmiri people will continue their struggle for freedom at all costs and will not bow their heads before any coercive force. He said the people of Jammu and Kashmir have the right to decide their future through a plebiscite.
The APHC-AJK General Secretary, Advocate Pervaiz Ahmed Shah, on the occasion said that despite India’s state repression, serious and systematic violations of human rights and illegal actions, the morale of the Kashmiri people has not been dampened.
He urged the international community to fulfill its responsibilities instead of being content with mere statements and play a practical and effective role for a just solution to the Kashmir issue.
Former convener Mahmood Ahmed Sagar said India cannot end the disputed status of Kashmir on the basis of military force and oppression. He clarified that the right to self-determination is an inalienable right of the Kashmiri people which cannot be suppressed or abolished under any circumstances.
On this occasion, Pakistan Peoples Party leader Ijaz Baig, Jamaat-e-Islami representative Khalid Khokhar, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Sardar Tahir Akbar and eminent religious scholar Maulana Attaullah Shah reiterated their full support for the freedom struggle of the Kashmiri people.
They expressed their resolve that political, religious and social organizations will continue to stand by the Kashmiri people for their right to self-determination.
They said that the main purpose of observing the Right to Self-Determination Day on January 5 is to shake the world conscience and remind the United Nations of its own approved resolutions.
They demanded that the Kashmiri people be given the right to decide their future according to their aspirations.
A large number of journalists were present at the press conference.
President of Press Club, Bagh, Akmal Arif thanked the guest speakers and journalists and expressed his resolve that the Bagh Press Club will always play its role in highlighting the truth, justice and the voice of the oppressed people.
