ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued notice to federation and Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on the petition filed by JI against local government amendment ordinance -2026 besides seeking reply from them till January 27. Justice Muhammad Azam Khan of IHC heard the petition Friday. JI Islamabad president Nasrullah Randhawa appeared in the court along with the counsels. The counsel for the petitioner said ECP issued schedule for local bodies election in Islamabad. February 15 was fixed for holding LB polls in Islamabad. President promulgated local government amendment ordinance on January 10. The counsel for the petitioner further said promulgation of ordinance 3 days before National Assembly session shows malafide intent. The motive behind promulgation of ordinance is postponement of LB polls. He further said there is no justification for promulgation of ordinance after issuance of election schedule. The court issued notices to the respondents besides adjourning the hearing till January 27. DNA
