Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Standing Committee on Administration on Wednesday directed the Public Service Commission to fill all vacant positions to ensure the timely announcement of candidates’ results.
The committee meeting was held at the Provincial Assembly Secretariat and chaired by MPA Abdul Muneem. It was attended by committee members and MPAs Muhammad Arif, Sharafat Ali, Abdul Salam Afridi, Ikram Ghazi, Ms Afshan Hussain, Ms Aiman Jalil Jan and Ms Arifa Bibi. The secretary establishment, representatives of the law and anti-corruption departments, officials of the Public Service Commission and relevant assembly officers were also present.
The committee held a detailed discussion on a call attention notice moved by MPA Abdul Salam Afridi regarding the 10 per cent quota reserved for Secretariat employees in the Provincial Management Service (PMS).
Members observed that since PMS was a competitive examination, officials from attached departments should also be given equal opportunity to compete. The secretary administration informed the committee that under the 2007 rules, officials of attached departments were included in the quota, but subsequent amendments had restricted it exclusively to Secretariat employees.
The committee directed the administration department to present comprehensive proposals on the issue at the next meeting.
The meeting also reviewed progress on directives issued during the session held on Dec 31, 2024. Members unanimously proposed reducing the deputation period from three years to two years, without any extension. The administration department was instructed to prepare detailed working papers and submit recommendations in the next meeting.
The director general of the anti-corruption department was similarly directed to recruit staff on a permanent basis and avoid reliance on deputation arrangements.
