Federal Minister for Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and States & Frontier Regions and President of PML-N Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Amir Muqam, on Friday said that strong leadership and national unity have enhanced Pakistan’s global prestige, while empowering youth, particularly female students, remained the government’s top priority.
Addressing a ceremony at Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University, the minister distributed 176 laptops among female students under Phase 4 of the Prime Minister’s Youth Laptop Scheme and inaugurated a newly constructed administration block built at a cost of Rs150 million with federal support.
Addressing the university’s development needs, he announced a grant of Rs600 million for the construction of hostels and other projects for female students, assuring personal coordination for approval and release of funds.
Describing the laptop scheme as a reflection of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision, Amir Muqam said the initiative aims to promote education, technology and digital inclusion among the youth.
Praising the talent and determination of female students, the minister said Pakistani women have demonstrated excellence in every field when provided equal opportunities.
He cited examples of Malala Yousafzai, Benazir Bhutto, Fatima Jinnah and Maryam Nawaz as role models for the nation’s daughters.
He said women were serving prominently in the armed forces, air force and bureaucracy, adding that quality education for women is vital for national development.
Amir Muqam called for healthy competition among provinces in education and public welfare projects. He noted that positive competition in scholarships, laptops and educational reforms would create maximum opportunities for the youth.
Earlier, the vice-chancellor briefed the minister on academic programmes, research activities and ongoing development projects. The minister appreciated the university’s role in promoting women’s education and assured continued federal support.
Among others present on the occasion were PML-N Peshawar District President Rashid Mahmood Khan, MNA Samar Haroon Bilour, MPA Afsha Hussain and senior university officials. The minister also planted a commemorative tree on the campus.
