BANNU
The bomb disposal squad foiled two major terror attempts in Bannu by defusing around 150 kilograms of explosives planted at separate locations, police officials said on Friday.
According to police, improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were planted under a bridge on the main Miranshah Road within the limits of Bakakhel police station.
Officials said the explosives were packed in two drums with a combined weight of about 140kg. Both drums were connected through a command wire, indicating a planned remote detonation.
In a separate incident, another explosive device weighing about 10kg was planted at the main gate of Kaki police station. The device had ball bearings attached to it to increase its destructive impact.
Police said the suspects attempted to detonate the device through fire, but the flames were extinguished before they could reach the explosives.
The bomb disposal squad responded promptly to both incidents and safely defused the explosives, preventing potential large-scale destruction.
District Police Officer (DPO) Bannu Yasir Afridi said the professionalism and timely action of the bomb disposal squad saved the city from major devastation.
Police have launched an investigation into both incidents and efforts are underway to trace those involved.
